Our Story

How We Started Making Excellent Handcrafted Furniture

A Global Journey

Asia, the Middle East, and America

We Learned our craft in the towns of Iraq, Turkey, and Korea and brought it back to the United States so that you could benefit from what we learned.

Truly International
Our Marriage Began Overseas

Having both been raised overseas, we have a passion for helping the underprivileged. We spent the first 5 years of our married life working in Korea, Turkey, and Iraq.

Birth of a new career
Your Dream Space Started Here

When we moved to Iraq, Mark knew he needed a hobby. With a 50 lb. suitcase of hand woodworking tools and YouTube woodworking videos in hand, his woodworking career was born in a downstairs bedroom of our house. His workbench was three beds stacked on top of each other.

Two years later we moved back to the States and started Makari Designs. We wanted to continue working overseas because Jesus gave us a great example to care for the needy, and we wanted to follow it.

humble beginnings
That Old Barn

We started in a small run-down barn and are now in a wonderful workshop full of old tools that Mark has refurbished.

Experience That Works In Your Favor
Continuing Our Work Of Compassion

Our life experiences make it fairly easy for us to work with people of other cultures, and our experience and education in teaching, crisis and trauma, and building/woodworking has allowed us to be a part of some great trips back to Iraq, Cameroon, Nepal, and Ethiopia.
